For 2027, Nigerians Should Demand Real Reforms, Not Just Subsidy Promises
I believe Nigeria needs candidates who will discuss serious reforms, not just fuel subsidies and other populist promises. Government is not Father Christmas, and good governance should be judged by practical policies, strong institutions and enforceable laws. For example, we need tougher action against producers and sellers of fake food and drinks. Mixing harmful substances into palm oil, fufu, plantain chips and other products in the name of hustle puts lives at risk. Candidates should explain how they will strengthen regulation, inspections and punishment for such offences. We also need more than promises to buy equipment for the police and military. Better training, accountability and enforcement of existing laws are necessary for the security agencies to perform effectively. Any candidate seeking my vote in 2027 should be ready to discuss these real issues. Nigeria's oil wealth has not translated into affordable energy or better living standards, and that failure deserves more serious debate than slogans about subsidies alone.
