Oshiomhole Faults Umahi’s Road Funding Priorities, Urges Repairs First
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticised the allocation of federal road funds, arguing that badly damaged existing roads should be repaired before money is committed to new projects. Speaking in a podcast interview, the Edo North senator said his disagreement with Works Minister David Umahi during a National Assembly budget hearing was part of lawmakers’ duty to scrutinise public spending. He questioned why new roads were being proposed while many federal roads remained impassable. Oshiomhole said the Ministry of Works should use reports from federal directors of works and coordinate effectively with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to identify urgent maintenance needs. He also urged the ministry to take responsibility for the contractors handling its projects.
