Timipre Sylva Quits APC as EFCC Renews $14.86m Fraud Summons

Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva resigned from the All Progressives Congress on Monday, accusing the ruling party of abandoning its founding ideals. Hours later, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission renewed its demand that he appear over an alleged $14.86 million fraud linked to refinery-project funds. Sylva, who has been wanted since November 2025, denies wrongdoing and alleges that the EFCC has become an organ of the APC. He also faces a separate 13-count federal charge over an alleged coup plot. The developments have raised questions about whether Sylva’s exit from the APC and the renewed EFCC summons are connected. No official evidence has yet established which development prompted the other.
