Nigerian Man Extradited to US Over Alleged Sextortion Linked to Minor’s Death

Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, 24, has been extradited from Nigeria to the United States to face charges over the alleged financial sextortion of two minors, including one case linked to a victim’s death. He was indicted in August 2023 on charges including sexual exploitation of minors resulting in death, enticement of minors, threatening communications and distribution of child sexual abuse material. He has appeared before a federal court in Greensboro, North Carolina. Olawale was arrested in Nigeria on 9 August 2023 during a joint operation involving the FBI. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment, while the charge involving exploitation resulting in death carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years.
