Nigerian Student Jailed for 14 Years in Cyprus Over Sexual Assault and Secret Recording
A Nigerian student in Cyprus has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a fellow student in her dormitory and secretly videotaping the crime. The court heard that the incident took place between 10:30 PM and 1:30 AM on March 25–26, 2023. The defendant entered the victim’s room, strangled her, assaulted her three times, and recorded the attack without her consent. In handing down the sentence, the judge noted the lack of remorse, the defendant’s undocumented status, and recent penal code amendments aimed at curbing sexual crimes as aggravating factors.
