Tinubu Calls on NLNG to Convert Gas Flaring Into Affordable Energy for Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has asked Nigeria LNG Limited to step up efforts to convert flared gas into products and energy that benefit Nigerians. He said the company should balance export revenue with stronger domestic use of the country’s gas resources. At a meeting with the NLNG board at the State House on August 26, Tinubu said gas flaring should be turned from an environmental burden into an economic opportunity. He also called for pricing mechanisms that would make energy more affordable for households and businesses. NLNG said it has generated more than $150 billion since it began operations, while shareholders, including the Nigerian government, have received about $47 billion in dividends. The company said it has increased operations from four to five trains and expects Train Seven to raise its capacity by 35 per cent. The company added that all its cooking gas is supplied to the domestic market and that the NLNG-funded Bonny-Bodo Road and Bridge project has been completed ahead of commissioning.
