She said she was paralysed from her neck down for five years and relied on others to bathe and dress her while her family sought treatment. Despite the ordeal, she said she remained hopeful and never lost her passion for music. The singer also recalled experiencing troubling health episodes while performing on stage. She clarified that she did not create Waka music, noting that older women were already performing the genre before she began her career.
