Osun Indigene Demands Release of Withheld Local Government Funds
As an Osun indigene, I find the continued withholding of funds meant for the state’s 30 local governments unacceptable. FAAC records reviewed by a national newspaper indicate that about ₦216 billion due to the councils was withheld between March 2025 and June 2026. This is not simply a dispute between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke. The funds belong to the local governments and the residents who depend on grassroots services. Market women, artisans, farmers, students and elderly residents should not bear the cost of a political disagreement. The Supreme Court reportedly held that withholding local-government allocations breached the Constitution and directed that funds be paid directly to the councils. If there is a legal dispute over Osun’s council administration, it should be resolved in court. I am not asking for favour for any politician or party. I am asking for constitutional justice and the release of funds meant for Osun communities.
