CAN Warns Against Invoking Jesus Christ in 2027 Political Campaigns

CAN Warns Against Invoking Jesus Christ in 2027 Political Campaigns

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned politicians and supporters against using the name of Jesus Christ in partisan debates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The warning followed a viral video in which Precious Oruche, known as Mama Pee, reportedly said Peter Obi would defeat Jesus Christ if both appeared on the 2027 presidential ballot. CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said the comparison had generated concern and should not be repeated. Okoh said Nigerians are free to support or criticise Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, President Bola Tinubu and other political figures. However, he urged citizens to focus their debates on competence, character, policies and performance, stressing that no politician is the Messiah or a source of spiritual salvation. He called on political actors, campaign teams and voters to show restraint and mutual respect as preparations for the elections continue.
