Court Rejects Sowore’s Bid to Compel DSS Director-General to Testify
A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed Omoyele Sowore’s application seeking to compel the Director-General of the Department of State Services to testify in his cybercrime trial. Justice Mohammed Umar held that the proposed evidence concerns the DSS’s official activities and is not personal to its director-general. The court ruled that another DSS officer with knowledge of the relevant operations may testify instead. Sowore is being prosecuted over social-media posts made in August 2025 that allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a criminal and accused him of understating corruption. A DSS investigating officer told the court that the agency monitored reactions to the posts and considered them a potential national-security concern.
