Defense Minister Raises Soldiers’ Minimum Pay to ₦100,000 Amid Budget Shortfall

Defense Minister Raises Soldiers’ Minimum Pay to ₦100,000 Amid Budget Shortfall

The Minister of Defense announced that the federal government has doubled the minimum monthly salary for Nigerian soldiers from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000. Speaking in an interview ahead of a national broadcast, he admitted that the current defense budget remains too low to meet the armed forces’ needs. He also refuted claims that soldiers are poorly fed, accusing an online influencer of editing meal footage to mislead the public. That influencer was arrested alongside several soldiers for alleged misinformation and is now out on bail as investigations continue.
