Kwara Man Escapes Bandit Camps After 141 Days in Captivity
Mohammed Baba Salihu, who was abducted from Tsaragi in Kwara State on May 8, says he escaped captivity on September 26 after 141 days in the hands of kidnappers. Salihu said he endured severe hunger, thirst and violence in the camps. He said a ransom attempt of about ₦13 million ended in gunfire, leaving one of the men involved wounded. The man later died in captivity. He said he once escaped but wandered through the bush for nine days before another armed group captured him and took him to a separate camp. Salihu and eight other captives eventually escaped when they found themselves unsupervised. The survivors reached Lata Nna, where residents assisted them before soldiers took them in. Salihu is receiving treatment for dehydration, malnutrition and the psychological effects of the ordeal.
