Hormuz Strait Shipping Data Challenges US Claim of 40 Daily Transits
Ship-tracking data suggests far fewer vessels are passing through the Strait of Hormuz than the United States has claimed. Marine analytics firm Kpler recorded six crossings on Wednesday, 11 on Tuesday and five on Monday. Its 10-day average was 13 vessels per day. Lloyd’s List Intelligence reported a similar average of about 12 daily transits from August 26 to September 1. It cautioned that some vessels may be unaccounted for because ships can switch off their tracking signals. The figures remain well below the US claim that 40 ships crossed the strait on Tuesday.
