I find it troubling that, despite Nigeria's many economic and social challenges, Professor Wole Soyinka's reported concern is Peter Obi potentially contesting the 2027 presidential election. He reportedly cited the “national interest” as his reason. I would like him to clearly explain what national interest would be threatened by Obi's possible candidacy. Nigeria needs open and substantive debate about the issues facing the country, not selective concern about one politician's ambition.
