Ogun Customs Seizes ₦4.63bn Contraband as Revenue Soars by 238%
Between April 1 and June 23, the Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated ₦259.78 million and seized contraband with a Duty Paid Value of ₦4.63 billion. Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni said revenue rose by 238% compared with the same period last year. The Command made 146 seizures, including bags of foreign rice, parcels of cannabis sativa, tyres, footwear and other prohibited items. Major interceptions occurred along the Ijebu-Ode and Itori-Wasimi-Abeokuta corridors. On the export front, the Command facilitated 20,972 tonnes of goods worth ₦1.049 billion, up from zero in the comparative period of 2025. Collaborating with NDLEA and NAFDAC, customs handed over thousands of parcels of drugs and injections for further investigation and regulatory action. Joint operations with Beninese agencies continue to strengthen border security.
