Zulum: Jilli Market Shut Five Years Ago, Assures Investigation After Airstrike
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has confirmed that Jilli and Gazabure markets were officially closed five years ago. This clarification follows reports that civilians were killed or injured in a recent airstrike in the border area between Borno and Yobe. The governor said he has been fully briefed on the operation by the Joint Task Force’s air component. He stressed that the markets were notorious insurgent hubs and that he is consulting with Yobe State authorities and military leaders to review the incident. Zulum urged residents to avoid aiding Boko Haram and to share credible information with security agencies. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protect law-abiding citizens and work closely with the military. The Nigerian Air Force has activated its Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell to probe the allegations. It maintains that the strikes targeted fleeing insurgents responsible for recent attacks on security forces.
