Kano Court Jails Two for 14 Years in Love-Triangle Stabbing
A Kano State High Court has sentenced Nafiu Garba and Abdulmalik Garba-Yaroro to 14 years’ imprisonment each for the death of Surajo Garba. The two were convicted of culpable homicide and abetment over the 2019 incident. Court documents show the men, from Tudun Murtala and Zango Line in Dakata Quarters, attacked the victim during a misunderstanding over a girl. One held his hands while the other stabbed him in the back with a knife on March 16, 2019, at Rimi Line, Zango Dakata. Justice Hadiza Suleiman delivered judgment on April 27, 2026. She said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and took into account the offenders’ ages and the fight context. There is no option of a fine. The prosecution called three witnesses to establish the facts. Defence counsel asked for mercy because of the convicts’ youth, but the judge upheld the sentences.
