Utomi Urges Tinubu to Debate Major Rivals Ahead of 2027 Election
Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has urged President Bola Tinubu to take part in live presidential debates ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a television interview, Utomi said candidates seeking to lead Nigeria should face their major rivals and explain their policies directly to voters. He argued that refusing such debates denies the electorate an opportunity to assess competing ideas. Utomi also called for leaders to engage citizens beyond Abuja, including in state capitals and rural communities. He cited public debates in other democracies as an important tool for transparency and accountability.
