Open Letter to Tinubu: Power Must Serve Nigerians, Not Itself
This open letter examines the risks of unchecked power and argues that President Bola Tinubu’s administration must pair decisive leadership with humility, accountability and respect for public criticism. It considers the human impact of subsidy removal and foreign-exchange reforms, urging the government to measure success by food prices, jobs, healthcare, education and whether relief reaches vulnerable households. It also argues that past failures under the Buhari administration should not become an excuse for present shortcomings. The letter calls for competent appointments, transparent public spending, protection for democratic scrutiny and a credible national population census. It maintains that Nigeria needs evidence-based governance in which loyalty does not outweigh competence and citizens can hold leaders accountable. Its central message is that public office is a trust. Executive power should be exercised firmly, but always in service of Nigerians and subject to the discipline of law, evidence and public welfare.
