Federal Workers Forum Demands ₦300,000 Minimum Wage, Alleges Incomplete Implementation of ₦70,000 Pay
The Federal Workers Forum has accused the Federal Government of failing to fully implement the ₦70,000 national minimum wage approved in July 2024. The group said only a flat ₦40,000 was added to salaries across Levels 1 to 17, without the full consequential adjustment and other allowances. The forum is demanding an immediate review of the federal minimum wage to ₦300,000. It also proposed salaries of up to ₦1.5 million for Level 17 officers, arguing that inflation, fuel costs and the naira’s depreciation have severely reduced workers’ purchasing power. The workers also called for payment of outstanding promotion and salary arrears, the 40 per cent peculiar allowance, a permanent cost-of-living allowance, improved health insurance, housing and car loans, and an investigation into alleged borrowing from workers’ pension savings.
