Marwa Urges NDLEA to Target Drug Cartels’ Financiers and Assets
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa has urged investigators and prosecutors to go beyond arresting drug couriers and seizing narcotics. He said the agency must trace, recover and forfeit the funds and properties that sustain drug cartels. Speaking at a financial-investigation training in Abuja, Marwa said traffickers increasingly use cryptocurrency, complex company structures, technology and legitimate businesses to conceal illegal proceeds. He called for stronger capacity to trace assets across borders, identify beneficial owners and use digital evidence. He also urged closer cooperation between the NDLEA, EFCC, ICPC, NFIU and the judiciary. Marwa said recovered assets must be managed transparently and that disrupting the financial base of trafficking will make the crime less profitable.
