The company’s recommendation-driven content products grew rapidly, with TikTok becoming one of the world’s biggest video-sharing platforms. Zhang stepped down as ByteDance CEO in 2021 but retained substantial voting rights in the company. ByteDance’s global growth has made him one of Asia’s wealthiest technology entrepreneurs, with recent estimates placing his fortune above $100 billion.
