Bamidele Proposes Lagos-Southwest Investment Compact for Regional Growth
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has urged the Lagos State Government to establish a Lagos-Southwest Spatial Development and Investment Compact to coordinate development across the region. He said Lagos and neighbouring states are linked by labour, housing, agriculture, manufacturing, transport, trade and environmental systems. The proposed framework would cover Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states. Bamidele said the compact could help governments align transport and power projects, industrial policies, tourism plans, cross-border urban development and investment promotion. He also called for stronger broadband access, smart-city services, innovation hubs and digital skills training. The proposal was made at the Lagos Physical Planning Summit in Victoria Island. It remains a recommendation, with no announced agreement or implementation timetable.
