Python Helper for Calculating Volumetric and Chargeable Weight
When building logistics, cargo or e-commerce tools, calculating chargeable weight correctly helps prevent billing errors. This Python helper compares an item's actual weight with its volumetric weight and returns the higher value. The calculation uses the standard air-freight divisor of 6,000 cm³ per kilogram. It also returns the shipment volume in cubic metres (CBM), making it useful for internal dashboards, API back ends and validation workflows. For an item measuring 120 × 80 × 100 cm and weighing 110 kg, the volumetric weight is 160 kg. The billable weight is therefore 160 kg.
