Jihadist Assault on Mali’s Dioura Base Reportedly Kills Dozens of Soldiers
At least 50 Malian soldiers and five Russian Africa Corps personnel were reportedly killed when jihadists attacked the Dioura military base in central Mali’s Mopti region. Casualty estimates differ. Security and local sources said the death toll could be above 60, while another local official put it at at least 80. Reports also said several dozen soldiers were captured during the assault. Al-Qaeda-linked JNIM claimed responsibility and said it seized the barracks. A local source alleged that the attackers returned the following day without military reinforcements arriving at the camp.
