Dabiri-Erewa and Rufai Oseni Clash Over Alleged Endorsement of Anti-Igbo Post
NiDCOM chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni have traded accusations over a social-media post alleged to be offensive to Igbo people. Dabiri-Erewa said Oseni wrongly portrayed her as describing Igbo people with dehumanising terms after she reacted with a laughing emoji to a reply under a post by an account known as “Voice of Igbos”. She denied making or endorsing any ethnic slur and accused him of irresponsible reporting. Oseni maintained that her emoji reaction endorsed an offensive message. He challenged Dabiri-Erewa to a public debate and urged her to focus on her responsibilities at NiDCOM. The dispute has renewed debate about ethnic sensitivity, accountability and responsible conduct by journalists and public officials online.
