Awaiting-Trial Inmate Escapes During Court Appearance in Edo

The Nigeria Correctional Service has opened an investigation after an awaiting-trial inmate, Osita Thomas, reportedly escaped from court premises in Auchi, Edo State. Thomas was appearing in court over charges of conspiracy and stealing when he escaped, according to the Edo State Command. The command has asked members of the public with information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest correctional facility or police station. It said efforts are under way to recapture him and security around inmates has been strengthened.
