Lagos Man Extradited to U.S. Over Sextortion Case Linked to Mississippi Teen’s Death

Adebola Festus Adekunle, 26, has been extradited from Nigeria to the United States to face federal charges over an alleged financially motivated sextortion scheme involving a Mississippi teenager who later died. Prosecutors allege that Adekunle faces charges including sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death, producing child sexual abuse material, coercion and enticement of a minor, and interstate threats with intent to extort. He made his first court appearance in Oxford, Mississippi, on August 28, 2026. Adekunle was arrested in Nigeria in August 2023 following an FBI operation targeting alleged sextortion networks. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment, while one of the charges carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years. The allegations remain accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
