Why I Believe Nnamdi Kanu’s Rhetoric Harmed the Biafra Cause
I believe Nnamdi Kanu’s past rhetoric, including the statement that Nigeria should burn if Biafra does not emerge, reflected a dangerous willingness to accept devastating consequences. In my view, no political cause should be pursued through language or actions that could put ordinary people at risk. I also believe his return to Nigeria in 2016, despite the political climate at the time, exposed him and his supporters to serious danger. The protests and security crackdowns that followed left many families affected by violence and loss. Nigeria remains intact, while the Biafra movement continues to face internal divisions and disagreements among communities in the South-East and beyond. I believe any future conversation about self-determination must prioritise peaceful dialogue, capable leadership and the safety of civilians.
