Onoh Faults Reno Omokri’s Claim That ₦3,000 Can Cover a Nigerian’s Daily Needs

Josef Onoh has criticised Reno Omokri’s claim that an average Nigerian can live comfortably on ₦3,000 a day, describing it as disconnected from the country’s cost-of-living reality. Onoh noted that ₦3,000 daily amounts to about ₦90,000 monthly, but argued that this does not reflect the needs of typical Nigerian households. For a family of five, he said, the amount works out to just ₦600 per person each day. He said rising food prices, cooking fuel, water, transport, healthcare, education and electricity costs make the proposed budget unrealistic, especially for urban households. He added that treating bare subsistence as a viable standard of living risks normalising poverty.
