Former Anambra CP Explains How Monday Sit-at-Home Was Reversed

Retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police Ikioye Orutugu says Anambra restored Monday trading by confronting the sit-at-home order through coordinated action by security agencies, the state government and the media. Orutugu, who previously served as Anambra Commissioner of Police, said the campaign included sensitisation visits to major markets in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi. He said reopening markets was essential because many residents depend on daily buying and selling. The sit-at-home order, imposed by pro-Biafra non-state actors, had disrupted economic activities and raised security concerns. Orutugu credited Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other stakeholders for supporting efforts to return business activities to normal.
