Defence Ministry Assures Protesting Veterans Over Pension Adjustments

The Ministry of Defence has assured retired military personnel that the Federal Government is working to address their demands for pension adjustments and improved welfare. Representatives of the veterans met with ministry officials in Abuja after security operatives prevented them from gathering for a planned protest. The retirees want their pensions adjusted in line with salary increases approved for serving military personnel. The ministry said military, pension and financial authorities were being consulted to reach a fair and sustainable resolution. It appealed to the veterans to remain calm and continue negotiations while computations, funding and approvals are concluded. The protesters said they support better pay for serving personnel but do not want pensioners excluded from the consequential adjustments expected to follow the latest military salary increase.
