Wike Questions Atiku’s Record, Says Amaechi’s ADC Entry Complicates 2027 Ticket
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Nigerians to examine Atiku Abubakar’s record as vice-president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the former vice-president prepares for another presidential contest in 2027. Speaking at a political meeting in Rivers State, Wike questioned Atiku’s role in the federal privatisation programme between 1999 and 2007. He also referred to Obasanjo’s past criticisms of his former deputy, saying aspirants should be assessed by their time in public office. Wike also said former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi’s move to the African Democratic Congress has made the party’s presidential ticket more complicated. He challenged Amaechi to explain alleged spending on a mosquito-control programme, a specialist hospital, the Rivers monorail project and the reported sale of a gas turbine during his administration. The minister said Nigerians should focus on the performance and accountability of those seeking the presidency rather than campaign promises alone.
