Kano SSG Urges Journalists to Prioritise Accuracy Ahead of 2027 Elections
Kano State Secretary to the Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has urged journalists to uphold accuracy, fairness and professional ethics as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a media retreat organised by the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kaduna, he warned that careless reporting, misinformation and sensational headlines could deepen political, ethnic and religious tensions. Speakers at the retreat, including legal and security representatives, advised journalists to verify political claims, separate facts from opinions and report election-related issues without inflaming conflict. The programme was aimed at improving journalists’ preparedness, safety and ethical coverage of the electoral process.
