Nigerian Army Probes Officer Accused of Abusing and Impregnating 13-Year-Old Girl
The Nigerian Army says it has opened an investigation into allegations against Captain Etim Essien, who is serving at Headquarters 3 Division in Jos. The officer is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old deaf and non-speaking girl, allegedly impregnating her while she lived under his family’s care in Taraba State. The girl is reported to be the younger step-sister of his wife. The Army said it treats allegations of sexual abuse involving minors and vulnerable persons with utmost seriousness. It said civil authorities are also investigating and that it will cooperate fully while the facts are established.
