Amaechi Says He Will Back Tinubu If Petrol Sells for ₦600 Per Litre
Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has criticised the Tinubu administration over the cost of living and the effects of petrol subsidy removal. Speaking on a television programme, Amaechi challenged the Federal Government to show that the policy had delivered meaningful relief for Nigerians. He said he would abandon the Atiku Abubakar-Amaechi ticket and support President Bola Tinubu if petrol sold for ₦600 per litre the following day. Petrol prices remain a major public concern following the 2023 subsidy removal, which contributed to higher transport costs, inflation and pressure on household incomes. The Federal Government has maintained that ending the subsidy was necessary to reduce fiscal pressure and redirect public funds.
