79 Missing Children Recovered in Ohio Operation, Girl Found Hidden Under Floor
United States authorities say 79 missing and endangered children were recovered across Ohio during Operation Meridian, a month-long effort led by the U.S. Marshals Service. The children, aged six to 17, included runaways and suspected victims of trafficking, abuse, neglect and other dangers. Federal, state and local agencies worked together to trace the cases and provide medical care, counselling and family reunification support. In one case, officers found a 13-year-old girl concealed in a basement crawlspace beneath a closet floor in Lockbourne. Her 16-year-old sister was located later that day at a restaurant in Columbus. Their mother was arrested on an outstanding probation-violation warrant. Authorities also recovered a 16-year-old previously identified as a trafficking victim in Toledo. She was taken for medical evaluation, while local investigators examine possible criminal activity.
