Port Harcourt Refinery Support Staff Threaten Shutdown Over Seven Months’ Unpaid Salaries
Support staff at the Port Harcourt Refining Company in Eleme, Rivers State, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum over seven months of unpaid salaries and the delayed implementation of an approved salary structure. The workers barricaded the refinery entrance and said they could shut down operations if management does not meet their demands. They also want the payment of outstanding entitlements, a proposed ₦1 million housing relief package and better engagement with recognised labour representatives. Union representatives allege that the new pay structure was approved by NNPCL management to take effect on October 1, 2026, but has not been implemented. The workers are calling for urgent intervention to address welfare, medical and workplace safety concerns.
