Kaduna Widow Reportedly Killed by Bandits After Family Could Not Meet ₦10m Ransom Demand
A Kaduna widow, popularly known as Mama Mary, was reportedly killed by bandits after her family could not raise the ₦10 million ransom demanded for her release. Mama Mary, an indigene of Ariko village, had relocated to Kateri with her family because of worsening insecurity in her home community. She was reportedly abducted alongside three others while travelling to Ariko, 13 days after speaking at a protest about the hardship faced by displaced residents in Kateri. Her family reportedly raised ₦2 million, but the kidnappers rejected it. She was allegedly killed on August 15 and leaves behind four children. Her body has reportedly not been recovered.
