Army Rescues Four Kidnap Victims, Arrests Six Suspects in South-East Operations
Troops of the Nigerian Army recently carried out security operations across Imo, Cross River and Enugu states. They rescued four kidnapped victims, detained six suspects, and recovered cash and other items. In Imo State, soldiers from 34 Artillery Brigade and local security forces traced and freed three victims from a forest hideout along the Oguta–Owerri road. Unfortunately, one victim was killed while trying to escape. Recovered items included ₦987,500 in ransom proceeds, five mobile phones and two power banks. In Cross River, troops prevented a kidnapping at an election venue in Yakurr LGA. They freed an INEC official abducted during a party primary and arrested three suspects. One suspect escaped with mobile phones, an ATM card and election materials, while another group fled with ballot boxes. Under Operation Eastern Sanity II in Enugu, soldiers raided a cultists’ hideout in Achi Town. They seized eight motorcycles, two buckets of homemade gunpowder and arrested three suspects, including an 85-year-old man and two women. The Army says it remains committed to curbing kidnapping and crime in the South-East and adjoining areas.
