Bandits Kidnap Eight in Garin Idi Village, Including Sokoto Deputy Governor’s Relatives
Suspected bandits stormed Garin Idi village in Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto State at around 1:00am on April 30. The attackers came on eight motorcycles, fired sporadically for about two hours and abducted eight people. Relatives of Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir were among those taken. They also raided a phone-charging point, seizing over 100 mobile phones, power banks and ₦40,000 in cash after the operator fled. Residents describe the gunfire as the worst they’ve heard. They say no security forces responded and are appealing to the government for urgent intervention.
