Oyetola Warns Against AI Deepfakes and Manipulated Media Targeting Him
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has warned against the creation and circulation of AI-generated deepfake videos, manipulated images and other deceptive content falsely linked to him. The statement said public debate is lawful, but digital harassment, impersonation and defamatory content may attract legal consequences under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws. It urged social media users to verify media before sharing it. Security and cybersecurity agencies have reportedly been alerted to trace those behind malicious fabricated content. The minister said he remains focused on shipping development, port modernisation and blue economy infrastructure.
