Benue Police Parade 46 Over Peter Obi Convoy Blockade as Questions Trail Alleged Organisers
The Benue State Police Command has paraded 46 suspects arrested over the reported blockage of Peter Obi’s convoy in Makurdi on September 8, 2026. Obi was in Benue for a humanitarian and condolence visit to survivors and families affected by the June 2025 attack on Yelewata community in Guma LGA. His convoy was reportedly stopped near the Makurdi airport and Air Force Base by youths chanting for him to leave. He later returned to the airport under police escort. The incident has sparked disagreement between Obi’s supporters and the Benue State Government. While supporters alleged that people linked to state officials organised the blockade, the government denied involvement and said it was not informed of the visit in advance. Police say they were notified and deployed personnel to prevent violence. Online commenters have questioned why some alleged organisers, including a person referred to as Paso, were not seen among those paraded. The police have not confirmed those allegations and say investigations are continuing, with more suspects being sought.
