Can Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Truly Speak for the Entire North?

I believe access to government and media is not the same as an electoral mandate. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has an extensive public-service and political résumé, but I question whether he has personally tested his popularity in an election or built a constituency of voters behind him. The Northern Elders Forum should not automatically be treated as the voice of all Northerners. Northern Nigeria is made up of millions of farmers, traders, students, professionals and other citizens with different political views. A statement from an elite forum does not necessarily represent what every Northern voter thinks. In my view, elected governors, lawmakers and other office holders can point to mandates won at the ballot box. Baba-Ahmed can speak for himself and his party, but Northern voters should be allowed to speak for themselves through their PVCs and the 2027 election.
