Over 200 Nigerians in Indian Detention Facility Appeal to Tinubu for Help
More than 200 Nigerians reportedly held at a deportation facility in India have appealed to the Federal Government for urgent help, citing poor food, limited medical care and prolonged delays in returning home. In a video circulating online, one detainee said some Nigerians had spent two or three years at the facility. He also alleged that the conditions were affecting detainees' mental health. Claims of deaths at the camp have not been independently confirmed. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said India introduced an amnesty for undocumented Nigerian migrants in May 2025, allowing many to return voluntarily. Nigerian officials have requested a further extension to help affected citizens leave without penalties. Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister also raised the issue with Indian authorities during talks in New Delhi. The Indian government had not publicly responded to the latest allegations at the time of the report.
