Tinubu Approves 30% to 80% Pay Rise for Armed Forces Personnel

President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for Nigerian Armed Forces personnel, with increases ranging from 30% to 80% from September 1, 2026. Senior officers above the rank of colonel will receive a 30% increase. Personnel from colonel to warrant officer will get 50%, while junior ranks from private to staff sergeant will receive an 80% increase. About 250,000 Army, Navy and Air Force personnel are expected to benefit. The review will raise the Federal Government’s annual Armed Forces wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. The Presidency said the package is intended to improve troop welfare and morale as the military continues operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats nationwide.
