INEC Cites Supreme Court Ruling as Adebutu Is Omitted From Ogun Governorship List
The Independent National Electoral Commission says the omission of PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu and other aspirants from the final list for the 2027 governorship elections followed a Supreme Court ruling. INEC said the court upheld provisions of the Electoral Act requiring political parties to submit membership registers before sponsoring candidates. The commission said parties were required to submit the registers between April 21 and May 10, 2026, and those that failed to comply could not sponsor candidates for the affected elections. The decision also affects other aspirants, including former Communications Minister Isa Pantami in Gombe State. INEC said affected parties have 14 days from publication of the final list to challenge any omission, with the window closing on October 24, 2026. The commission added that the presidential and National Assembly candidate lists were released before the Supreme Court judgment and are not affected.
