FG Unveils Second Reform Wave to Pursue $1 Trillion Nigerian Economy
The Federal Government says Nigeria has entered a “second wave” of economic reforms under the Disinflation and Growth Acceleration Strategy (DGAS), a nine-pillar plan aimed at building productive capacity and supporting the country’s $1 trillion economy target. Speaking at the 2026 FICAN Annual General Meeting in Abuja, the Minister of State for Finance said Nigeria would need to sustain annual GDP growth of 10% to 12% over the next decade. The government estimates the economy is currently worth about $375 billion. The strategy focuses on industrialisation, expanded energy and digital infrastructure, technical training for three million young Nigerians annually, and improved consumer credit for housing, education and healthcare. The government also cited Nigeria’s exit from the FATF grey list as a development that could reduce compliance costs and improve investor confidence. Officials said the reforms build on fuel subsidy removal and foreign-exchange market unification, while stressing that private investment, entrepreneurship and skilled young people will be crucial to achieving the target.
