Rampaging Bandits in Yorubaland: Who Will Rescue Our Communities?
Growing violence in South-West Nigeria has shaken Yorubaland’s reputation for peace. Kidnappings, farm attacks and raids on remote villages now threaten lives and livelihoods. Community leaders and Afenifere warn that daily losses of life are eroding residents’ sense of safety. Governors are urged to act: cut off bandit funding, strengthen intelligence, raid forest hideouts and consider state police reforms. Sunday Igboho says he can mobilise 50,000 men to flush out criminals, while Soludero hunters offer local expertise to secure our forests. Unless coordinated steps are taken, farms will stay deserted, highways will remain perilous, and homes will cease to be safe havens. The time for decisive action is now.
