Forest Guard and Suspect Die in Mob Violence in Taraba’s Lau LGA
The Taraba State Police Command is investigating a deadly clash in Lau Local Government Area that left two men dead on April 14, 2026. A forest guard on duty arrested a man allegedly carrying a concealed knife. During the arrest, the suspect stabbed the guard in the chest, inflicting fatal injuries. Residents formed a mob and attacked the suspect, who was later identified as Yau Jaro Saidu of Jegem Village. The Commissioner of Police, CP Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, visited the scene and met with Fulani and Jenjo community leaders to urge peaceful coexistence. The police have launched a full-scale investigation to identify everyone involved in both the stabbing and the mob action. Authorities warn against taking the law into one’s own hands and ask the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest station.
